A walk through history

Devizes describes itself as “Wiltshire’s hidden gem” with some justification. It grew up around a great Norman castle built by a Bishop of Salisbury.

Although destroyed in the Civil War the Victorian replacement hints at its former glory.

For those who wish to explore the culture that built Stonehenge the Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Devizes houses one of England’s finest collections of Bronze Age artifacts.

Our 90 minute guided town walk includes a short stretch on the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath together  with streets full of beautiful listed buildings and a Norman church designated by Pevsner as one of the finest in Wiltshire. A stroll around this delightful, and very English, market town will not fail to charm.
